Joanna is an experienced and versatile performer with an extensive track record of having danced at semi-professional and professional dance platforms in Singapore and overseas. Beginning with ballet at the age of 5, Joanna has since trained extensively in contemporary technique under many notable teachers from Singapore and abroad.

No stranger to theatre-based or site-specific performances, Joanna has performed in dance productions under Singapore’s contemporary dance companies such as Frontier Danceland, THE Second Company, Maya Dance Theatre and Dancescape Singapore. Under the National University of Singapore (NUS) Dance Synergy, she performed in ensemble and solo contemporary dance works at high profile events such as the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 1- Year and 99-day Countdown Celebrations at City Hall and *SCAPE respectively, and the ASEAN Paralympic Games 2015 Opening Ceremony. She was also a key representative of NUS Dance Synergy at many branding and publicity events.

More recently in 2019, Joanna performed Peter Gn’s work, That Place of Least Resistance, at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (London). She also performed in his 90-minute ensemble work, Insistence and Burn, at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Studio Theatre, an excerpt of which she presented at the Victorian College of the Arts (Melbourne) in the same year.

Joanna is intrigued by the possibilities of interdisciplinary collaboration with dance, and continues to challenge herself through dancing in projects that feature classical music (Danceries, 2018, under the Philharmonic Youth Winds at the Esplanade Concert Hall), live music (Amorph[Us], 2015, under Maya Dance Theatre at the Goodman Arts Centre Blackbox; A Delicate Sound of Stillness, 2018, under the National Institute of Education at the NIE Art Gallery) and visual art (Fluid, 2018, under Phenomenon ONE, a contemporary dance event at the Esplanade Library).

Asides her keen involvement in dance, Joanna is currently a post-doctoral fellow in translational cancer research, and Laboratory Manager of a clinical laboratory at Genome Institute of Singapore, under the Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
