Biography

Cai Ying is a choreographer, teacher, performer and dance practitioner-researcher. Ying graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with MFA degree (major in choreography) in 2008; prior to that, received a BFA degree (major in Chines Dance) from the Beijing Dance Academy in 2003.

She has been selected to be one of the Yale-China HKETO Arts Fellow at Yale University in 2015-2017. Currently, Ying is the Guest Senior Lecturer at Singapore Raffles Music College Dance Degree Programme and a Stott Pilates instructor base in Singapore and Hong Kong.As a teacher-practitioner, CAI Ying has extensive experience in both professional and amateur dance education. She also has been invited to teach abroad and serve as an international dance adjudicator many times.

Ying’s previous teaching and cooperation organizations include: The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Dance Company, Hong Kong Dance Federation, Leisure and Cultural Services Department (Hong Kong), Yale University (US), Yale-China Association (US), Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco (US), International Festival Arts & Ideas (US), New Haven Ballet (US), National Arts Council (Singapore) , National Arts Council (Singapore) , The Xiamen Academy for Performing Arts (China), Sibu International Dance Festival (Malaysia), Tianzifang Arts Center (China), Bangkok University of Thailand, Pusan National University (Korea) , etc.

As a dance artist and choreographer, Cai Ying’s works has been invited to present in many international arts festivals and productions. Her works has been funded and commissioned internationally by organisations such as: International Festival Arts & Ideas (US), Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco (US), Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Sibu International Dance Festival (Malaysia), National Arts Council (Singapore), Taipei Fringe Festival, Leisure and Cultural Services Department (Hong Kong), The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, The BiCity Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Hong Kong), etc.
