Ms Mabel Yap started dancing since the age of 3, majoring in Classical Ballet. She had been scoring Distinctions and High Merits for the RAD Graded Examinations from Grade 1 to 8. She had also completed her higher Vocational Levels in Ballet, the RAD Vocational Graded – Advanced 2.
In her secondary and tertiary education, Mabel started exploring different genres of dance such as Chinese dance, Modern dance as well as Hip Hop. Being a versatile dancer, she had scored Honours for the ATOD Jazz Silver Medal, Gold Medal and Jazz Gold Star. She had also travelled to London and Hong Kong for dance exchange programmes together with Dancepointe.
She has also participated in the 15th CSTD Asia Pacific Dance Competition in 2013 and attained an Honourable Mention in the Open Trio Category, and a 3rd position in the Open Troupe Category. She also travelled to the Perth Dance Festival that particular year and achieved an Honourable Mention in the Open Contemporary Solo Category and 2nd Position in the Open Contemporary Trio Category. In 2015 17th Asia Pacific Dance Competition at Bangkok, Mabel attained a 2nd Position for her Duo Jazz Open Category.
Mabel has also played a few lead roles in Dancepointe productions throughout the years. She was the Lion King during Magical Wonders (2009), Emily in Repertoire (2012), Cheshire Cat in Alice in the Wonderland (2013) as well as Pocahontas in Enchanted (2014).
She is in Dancepointe Teaching Apprentice Programme since 2013.
